K-9 UNIT
The primary responsibility of the K-9 Handler is to provide direct support to field patrol officers through specialized functions, i.e. tracking, building searches, field and article search, and drug detection. As a secondary function, K-9 units are responsible for normal patrol activities or any other duties assignments.
K-9 units may also help with public demonstrations and may assist other local, county, state, or federal authorities for prosecution efforts. There are currently four K-9 units and handlers at the Broken Arrow Police Department. The K-9 names are Chaos, Thor, Ghost, and Kasal.
K-9 units respond to calls for service (i.e. traffic collisions, domestic disturbances, crimes in progress, keep the peace….), and conducts preliminary investigations as needed.
They are utilized for building searches, alarm calls, tracking of suspects, suspect apprehension, narcotic detection, and special patrol as they relate to K-9 capabilities.
